Osonament is an organization with a strong commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change, and in this context, the company has calculated its carbon footprint from 2014 to 2019.
In this framework and with the aim of making visible its commitment to climate change, Osonament goes one step further and decides to become a carbon neutral organization thanks to the offset of those GHG emissions that cannot be reduced with Clean CO2.
The offset has been made through the purchase of 184 carbon credits from the Cikel Brazilian Amazon REDD APD Project Management.
The aim of the project is to avoid emissions from planned deforestation on a property in the state of Pará, Brazil. The main activity in the Brazilian Amazon is the cancellation of planned deforestation activities and the decision to conserve the forest area and continue limited forest management activities in the area under the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC ®) Certification with low impact of practice register (SFMLIL). The project is located in the Río Capim Complex (RCC), Paragominas municipality, in the state of Pará, in eastern Amazonia. The project area covers 27,434.9 ha of native forest. Thanks to the conservation of biomass, greater CO2 absorption is achieved with a direct decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In addition, the project generates well-paid job opportunities for residents, provides education in the use of agricultural techniques, and improves the living conditions of local communities.
As a guarantee of the action taken, Osonament has received the Clean CO2 certificate accrediting Osonament as a carbon neutral organization.
